The Queen Sab Sista is Back, Highlander is the last cowgirl
Sab Sista is back with Highlander (The last cowgirl) and announcing the release of her new official album which will see the light in the summer of 2024.
After the release of Desaparesista in 2017 for BM Records, Sab Sista made his return official by signing with KML.
The single, produced by Lefty for Chetelodicoafare prod, takes inspiration from an article published on RollingStone in 2021 in which the author, speaking of Sab Sista, concludes simply by calling her Highlander.
Sab Sista explains: “When I read that article I got emotional. Given the adequacy and relationship with the concept that will accompany the entire album, it seemed perfect to me to choose it as the title of this single. Those who know and know who I am and how I live will instantly recognize how much it represents me. Sab Sista is Highlander!”
Highlander is a feminist rap piece and an outlet in which lyrical skills and flow are mixed with quotes, anger and insights into personal life. Sab Sista says: “The goal is to continue to inspire new generations of girls to continue in my footsteps in this cross-section of Italy where rap is still considered patriarchal. This is not and should not be the case. Learn to value yourself.”
Highlander (The last cowgirl) has a fresh and minimal soundscape that winks at dance and electronica. The sound supports the vision of the artist who, with her coherence, with her values and her attitude of the past, always seeks stylistic evolution.
The song, available on all digital stores, is accompanied by a video directed by Dado Orlandi which takes inspiration from the “Copenhagen Cowboy” series conceived by the visionary Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn.
The video, with neon noir atmospheres and fluorescent effects, plays an important part being typically authorial and in total contrast with the artist’s rough rap. As in the television series, Sab Sista plays Miu, thin and fragile like a butterfly and at the same time a wolf who fights for herself and for those who love her.
